Poinciana combines Senior Night with homecoming when it hosts Eustis Friday at 7 p.m. in the final game of the season at Eagle field.

Poinciana, 2-6, 1-3, was eliminated from the 5A-7 district race last week after falling to Port Orange Atlantic, 50-28.

The game was tied at 21 at the half before Poinciana turned it over on three straight possessions, Coach Corey Fleming said.

“That kind of got us behind the eight-ball,” he said.

Michael Cirino scored twice, once on a TD run and again on a 73-yard fumble return that was caused by teammate Kendrick Calixte. Jevonte Hursey scored on a 50-yard run and Theron Ellis bulled over from the 4 for Poinciana’s first touchdown.

Fleming said there still is much to play for as the Eagles enter the final two games of the season.

“We have a great chance to win out, and four wins is probably as many as we’ve had in the last decade or so,” Fleming, in his first year as head coach, said.

Poinciana’s last multiple win season (2) came in 2009 under Gene Smith. The last time the team won more than twice was in 2000, when the Eagles were 6-5 and made their only playoff appearance as a regional wild-card selection under Mike Cullison. Poinciana goes to Liberty for the regular season finale Nov. 10.
