Harmony took the first big step toward its goal of appearing at the Class 7A state volleyball tournament by defeating rival St. Cloud, 25-11, 25-11 and  25-16 to win the 7A-6 district championship Thursday at the St. Cloud gym.
The Longhorns (19-8), will host Osceola (19-7) Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the regional quarterfinals.
St. Cloud (14-13) will visit Lake Minneola at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Lake Minneola defeated OHS for the 7A-5 championship Thursday, 25-13, 18-25, 25-19, 24-26 and 15-11 at Poinciana.
Harmony, which won its third consecutive district championship, was led by Marie Gilbert’s 12 kills and 26 assists from setter Genesis Viera.
Sarah Sullivan had five kills for the Lady Bulldogs.
Osceola’s Colleen Arago had 38 assists and Natalie McClain had 19 kills.
The winners of Tuesday’s games will meet Nov. 8 in the regional semifinals. That winner advances to the regional finals Nov. 12. The Class 7A state tournament, at Osceola Heritage Park, begins Nov. 18.
