Osceola County's Mosquito Control plans to begin aerial spraying Monday between 8 p.m. and midnight in Kenansville, Yeehaw Junction, Holopaw, Cypress Creek, Pine Grove, St. Cloud Manor and Canoe Creek areas.

In the event weather prohibits aerial treatment, alternate days will be Tuesday or Wednesday within the same time frame. Mosquito Control will continue to provide ground treatment via spray truck throughout the county as weather permits. Ground treatments are not conducted when it is raining or if the winds are at 10 mph or greater.

The Osceola County Health Department recommends citizens check rain gutters and other objects in yards and around homes for standing water, and flush out birdbaths every three days. For outdoor nighttime activities, the use of insect repellent containing DEET is recommended, as well as to wear long sleeves and pants. When returning indoors, be sure to wash off the insect repellent.

 “Fight the Bite” using the 5 D’s:

• Don’t go outdoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.

• Dress to cover bare skin.

• Apply mosquito repellants containing Deet to skin and clothing. Picaridin and oil of lemon eucalyptus are other repellent options. Always read the manufacturer’s directions carefully before using a repellant, and make sure the repellant is age appropriate.

• Dump any container around your home that holds water.
