Harmony sweeps X-Country district titles

Two teams and three individuals won district cross country championships last weekend and lead Osceola County runners to regional competition on Friday.

Harmony dominated the 3A-8 meet at Lake Region High.

Vanessa Bolen (19:49) won the girls district championship, closely followed by teammates Allison Hicks (20:13) and Brooke Mullins (21:19), as the Lady Longhorns swept the top three spots and placed five runners among the top 10.

Harmony (25) ran away from Auburndale (68) and host Lake Region (80) at the eight-team meet. Liberty (128) was fifth, led by Queen Washington (22:25).

Harmony’s boys (27) were just as dominant, winning the team title over Auburndale (66) and Sebring (70) in a six-team field. Liberty did not field a complete boys team.

Nicholas Morrison (16:40) won the individual title, and four of his teammates finished among the top eight: Bradley Justesen (17:27), Gary Kelley (17:28), Hunter Oppedal (17:43) and Jack Stevens (17:51).

Next up for Harmony is the 3A-2 regional race at the Flagler County Fairgrounds Friday at 8:45 a.m.

St. Cloud placed second in both the boys and girls competitions at the 4A-5 district race at Lake Region.

The Bulldogs’ Tristen Montalvo (16:02) won the individual championship and Zachary Cloud (16:10) was the runner-up.

Lakeland George Jenkins (36) edged St. Cloud (39) for the team championship. The Bulldogs ran without one of their top three runners. Gateway (103) finished third, Celebration (107) as fourth and Osceola (193) placed eighth.

Andrew Carrera (17:28) led Gateway’s runners, and Cote Strike (17:32) was first for Celebration. Orlando Clavero (17:56) finished 16th to lead Osceola.

Lakeland George Jenkins (22) won the girls race over the Lady Bulldogs (45). Celebration (122) was fourth and Osceola (155) finished seventh.

Valeria Villatoro (19:45) finished fourth for St. Cloud. Gabriella Macedo (21:11) was 12th and led Celebration. Kyla Cruz-Baez (21:31) was 16th for Osceola.

The 4A-2 regional is at Lakeland’s Holloway Park Friday at 9:20 a.m.

At the A-10 district meet at Holloway Park, City of Life Academy’s girls and New Dimensions’ boys each placed third to advance to the regionals.

First Academy (22) won the girls district title, followed by Lakeland Christian (39) and City of Life (101). New Dimenions (255) was ninth.

Kaylee Harkema (23:43) finished 11th to lead City of Life. Kaitlyn Harkema (23:55) finished 13th.

Nicole George (31:22) was the first New Dimensions runner across the finish line.

Windermere Prep (28) won the boys A-10 district title followed by Lakeland Christian (75) and New Dimensions (76). City of Life did not have a boys team score.

David Herrera (19:08) was fourth and Cameron Braid (19:14) placed fifth for the Tigers.

Kenny Payton (19:30) placed 12th and advanced to the regions as an individual for City of Life.

The top four teams and top 15 individuals advanced.

The A-3 regional meet is Saturday at Melbourne Holy Trinity High, starting at 7:45 a.m.
