Eastbound Oak Street opens Wednesday

Posted on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 11:02 am

The city of Kissimmee has announced that all eastbound travel lanes will reopen between Lawrence Silas Boulevard and Vine Street on Wednesday.

Westbound lanes will open partially, from Vine to the entrance of the Heritage Park Offices only until final intersection improvements at Lawrence Silas are completed in four to six weeks.

With the completion of the year-long first phase of the project, the second phase also begins on Wednesday, the widening between Lawrence Silas and Main Street, including a traffic signal at Lawrence Silas Boulevard. That stretch of road will close Wednesday until the completion of phase two.

The $9.5 million project will eventually include widening Main Street about a block west of Main Street, to Robinson Street just beyond the SunTrust branch.

When it’s all done, expected to be completed in the spring of 2018, the entire stretch of Oak Street from Robinson to Vine will have additional driving lanes, new bicycles lanes, wider sidewalks, bricked crosswalks and new landscaping.
