Area schools to host holiday celebrations in December

Posted on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 9:24 am

Happy Thanksgiving!  The start of the 2017 holiday season should remind us of what we are thankful for.

It may be something obvious, like a new home or vehicle, or something more private and personal, like a better health diagnosis or a reunion with an estranged relative. Take today to appreciate something in your life, big or small. Appreciating what you have is a powerful feeling. Carry that attitude of gratitude forward this season and into 2018.

There are plenty of happenings at our local schools. Bellalago Academy’s PTO will be hosting a Holly Jolly Shop from Nov. 28 through Dec. 7. Students can bring money to buy presents for their family and friends. Information will be sent home after the Thanksgiving break.

Bellalago Academy’s eighth grade will be hosting a Winter Dance on Friday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria. All middle school students are invited for a fun time of music, dancing, and snacks. There will also be a photo booth to take pictures with friends.

Bellalago Academy music department’s Winter Concert will feature the Bellalago Band directed by Eric Troop and the Bellalago choir directed by Mike Ortiz. This is a very festive event that will put you in the holiday spirit. The event will be Friday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria. Contact Kimberly Taylor, Bellalago Academy, 407-933-1690, for more information.

Deerwood Elementary’s Celebrations “Around the World” event will be Dec. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. The school will be hosting a toy/gift collection along with the holiday gift shop. Volunteers are needed for the gift shop. For more information, contact the school’s OASIS coordinator or PTO president at 407-870-2400.

The next SAC meeting at Poinciana Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) will be on Nov. 30 at 9:30 a.m. PAFA is looking for more parents and community members to become involved. SAC is an important part of the School Improvement Plan to help make important decisions in regards to academic achievement of all.

Discovery Intermediate’s Odyssey of the Mind club with Mr. Jones will meet every Thursday until February 2018 from 4 to 5 p.m. in room 4-112. The students are preparing for problem-solving competitions and tournaments within Central Florida. Any students interested should speak with Mr. Jones.
