All in all, it wasn’t too bad a boys soccer season for the St. Cloud Bulldogs and forward Seth Stankich.
The Bulldogs, under Coach Weylan Craig, reached the regional playoffs for the first time in six seasons.
And a big reason for that success was the play of Stankich, a senior who scored 19 goals and had five assists.
“Making the regional playoffs was a great feat since I hadn’t done that before and it was our first time in quite a few seasons,” Stankich said. “Despite losing in the first round (to Vero Beach), it was a great experience that many teams in the state are not able to realize.”
Stankich, the Osceola News-Gazette Male Soccer Player of the Year, has enjoyed other exciting experiences already that many much older have not.
He said that he learned to love soccer when he and his family lived in Egypt.
“I was surrounded by the culture. Everywhere you went you would find people playing and sharing their love for the game with others,” he said.
Because he concentrated on club soccer when he was a freshman, he played three varsity seasons for the Bulldogs.
Coach Craig is thankful that he did.
“Seth worked to make plays from the start of every game to the final whistle,” he said. “I knew I could always count on Seth to be the hardest worker on the field and inspire others to work just as hard.”
Stankich said that he was satisfied with his performance this season.
“I think my season went better than expected. It started slower, but as I got more games in I was able to bet more opportunities to score,” he said. “I came into the season very fit and really hungry to play.
He said that his goal was to be county’s leading scorer.
“I knew I would be near the top because of how I did the previous season. I think I ended up fourth or fifth then,” he said. “I went into every game mentally prepared to set myself up to score.”
He plays club soccer for Florida Rush on the 99s A team, and he would like to land a college scholarship, he said.
“We go to a lot of college showcases and play in the best league in the state,” he said. “I have spent the past couple of years in the recruiting process and I’m narrowing down where I would like to continue my soccer and schooling.”
He plans to study exercise science.
“I have always been interested in learning about the body and How I can improve myself to increase my game,” he said.
