It’s Butterscotch Night at Dairy Queen
By Peter Covino
While most people are thinking green as St. Patrick’s Day quickly approaches, former Kissimmee Main Street director Kelly Trace is thinking more in the lines of golden brown.
Trace has spearheaded a campaign to bring her much-loved butterscotch flavor back on the menu at the Dairy Queen in St. Cloud. Stopping short of hiring a Dairy Queen Butterscotch blimp, she has taken to that mainstay of causes, Facebook, and, yes, Dairy Queen in St. Cloud has listened.
Tuesday, March 18, is Butterscotch Night at the DQ.
Not only did they listen with, but it has turned into a full-fledged event with contests and an entire menu of butterscotch items.
“I am just in love with butterscotch,” Trace told me, via her Facebook Messenger account (of course) “and DQ let me take over their restaurant for one night.”
If it sounds like she is kidding, well she isn’t.
Starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, the DQ will feature butterscotch dipped cones, butterscotch MooLates, Butterscotch Dilly Bars, five different Butterscotch Blizzard flavors (Oreo, cookie dough, cheesequake, banana crème pie, salted fudge) as well as specialty items like Butterscotch chip shakes, butterscotch parfait, and butterscotch caramel waffle bowl sundaes.
About the only thing missing is a butterscotch topping hamburger. And with a few “secret” butterscotch things on the menu, well, anything is possible.
Contests for the evening include leaving your receipt at the DQ for a chance to win lunch for 4 and the best photo using #butterscotch via Facebook at St.CloudDqGrillChill (or Twitter, Instagram and Google+) wins a free DQ lunch.
Trace said that only about 10 percent of Dairy Queen locations carry the flavor because it doesn’t get ordered enough, and it is one of those flavors that doesn’t store well.
Trace has been so successful and the butterscotch faithful in St. Cloud have rallied so much that even after the event, butterscotch cones will be available in St. Cloud.
Butterscotch Night will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the DQ, located at 2601 13th St.
