Orlando man arrested for illegally renting homes
Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an Orlando man for illegally renting properties in Orlando and Kissimmee.
Yessy George, 30, from Orlando, was charged with scheme to defraud charges.
The investigation into the case began in early February, when the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a suspicious incident. The victim told deputies that a friend informed her that someone was occupying her foreclosed home on Rustic Drive in Kissimmee, where the victim has not lived in for several years.
Deputies visited the home and spoke with the family. The family told deputies that they rented the home from a man named Israel Rivera, and paid him an $800 deposit as well as $800 in rent for the month. The family then handed deputies the lease Rivera gave them, stating that it was signed by the homeowner. When deputies showed this to the victim she confirmed that her signature was forged.
Deputies contacted Rivera on Feb 25, and he came in for questioning. He told deputies that he worked for a man named Yessy George, a licensed real estate agent. Rivera had collected rent from several houses and did maintenance on the properties for George, as well as rent a home from him in Orlando. He cooperated with deputies and contacted George to meet him at 107 Coral Reef Circle in Kissimmee, a home that George has been trying to rent. When they met, deputies arrested George, finding several documents with addresses, unlabeled keys to properties and tools that can change locks in his vehicle.
George did not cooperate with the investigation, but based on statements and evidence he was taken to the Osceola County Jail. The investigation is ongoing, with additional charges pending.
Deputies encourage anyone looking to rent a house to verify that the rental company is licensed and reputable. Research the residence through the court system or property appraiser’s office and make sure that the lease amount is comparable to other rental properties.
