Harmony girls earn state basketball trip

Harmony erased a 12-point third quarter deficit to beat Lutz Steinbrenner, 44-40, Saturday to earn its first berth to the Class 7A girls  state basketball tournament.

Harmony will play Sarasota Thursday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals at the Lakeland Center. Sarasota won in overtime over Fort Myers, 61-56, Saturday. Wekiva and Palm Beach Lakes will play in the other Class 7A semifinal at 8:30.

Rebekah Fitzpatrick’s (13) 3-point shot in the fourth quarter capped a furious 16-3 run to put the Lady Horns ahead, 34-33, with just over two minutes left in the game. Harmony trailed 30-18 in the third quarter.

The Lady Horns (26-3)  hit eight straight free throws to close out the game.

Julia Ingler added 12 points for Harmony.
