Father, son killed in turnpike crash
A Windermere father and his son were killed in an Osceola County crash on Wednesday after the vehicle they were in slammed into the back of a semitrailer on Florida’s Turnpike.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the two victims were traveling southbound on the turnpike in a 2007 SUV at about 12:50 p.m in Osceola. For unknown reasons, the driver, Steven Miguel, 58, drifted toward the shoulder of the highway and struck the rear of the semitrailer that was parked in the outside southbound shoulder. The SUV went under the semitrailer, killing Steven Miguel and his son, 19-year-old Zachary Miguel, patrol reports stated. The driver of the semitrailer, John LaFlamme, of Clermont, was not injured, patrol reports stated.
Whether alcohol was involved is pending, reports stated. The crash remains under investigation.
