Harmony’s football season ended with a 27-0 setback at Eau Gallie Friday, leaving the Longhorns even, 5-5, for the 2013 season.
The Longhorns had a shot at a second straight playoff berth, but lost their 7A-6 district showdown against Lake Nona two weeks ago in the game that decided the district runner-up.
Coach Jerrad Butler said the Longhorns may have been carrying the hangover from the Lake Nona game to Eau Gallie last week when the Commodores jumped to a 17-0 first-half lead.
“We just came out flat. We didn’t get off to a very good start,” he said. “We moved the ball pretty well after that. We had opportunities, but we didn’t come away with any points.”
Butler said he was proud of the effort he received from his players this year.
“I’m going to miss these seniors. It’s a great group of kids and I appreciate how hard they played this year,” Butler said.
The Longhorns’ five losses came against teams that will play in the regionals this week: Space Coast, Bishop Moore, Osceola, Lake Nona and Eau Gallie.
“The games we lost weren’t upsets. It wasn’t like the teams that beat us didn’t have some ability,” Butler said.
He already is looking forward to next season.
“We have our coaching staff pretty much set, so hopefully we’ll have a great season next year,” Butler said.
