Two Horns golfers to state tournament

Harmony golfers Corey Harmon and Tyler Bennett both shot 1-over 73 at St. Cloud Royal Golf Links at the 3A-6 regional golf tournament Monday and earned spots at the Class 3A state tournament next month.
Harmon, the Orange Belt Conference tournament champion, and Bennett, the 2012 OBC champ, qualified as the top two individuals in the region who were not members of the state-qualifying teams (Vero Beach, 291; and Melbourne, 308).
Harmony shot 326.
Liberty’s Alice Munn was one of five golfers tied at 77 as a potential second qualifying individual at the 3A-3 regional at Windermere Monday, but she lost during a playoff.
Harmony Coach Jerry Piester said his players did well against formidable competition.
“It was nice that our district (3A-16) swept all places from first and second teams and both individuals. Tough district,” he said.
Piester will take his players to Mission Inn at Howey in the Hills Nov. 5-6 for the Class 3A tournament. The practice round is Nov. 4.
Harmony’s girls (360) did not qualify Monday as Tia Lindsey (86) and Christina Stevens (87) led the team.
Celebration’s boys (342) were fifth at the 3A-3 regional behind West Orange (296) and Dr. Phillips (303).
West Orange (317) and Dr. Phillips (324) also advanced at the girls tournament. Osceola (482) was seventh.
